What is a Read and Reward Card?

Read & Reward Cards are issued to children and young adults between the ages of 5 and 18 who live in the City of Rockford and have an RPL library card that is barred or blocked due to $5 or more in fines and fees. The card is good for one year with a checkout limit of 5 books and allows access to digital resources. No Audiovisual materials are allowed for check out with this card. To access the Internet computers at any RPL location, you must present your R & R card to a Circulation staff and receive a guest pass.

How long am I required to stay in the program?

You must stay in the program for the entire year, even if fines or fees are paid in full. Customers who return items late on the Read & Reward card and do not pay the new fines immediately are dropped from the Read & Reward program and ineligible for reentry. Books can be checked out for 21 days with two renewals if the book is not on hold for another customer. Children ages 5-13 are limited to children’s material in the Youth Services, and Young Adult areas.

After one year, a participant in good standing will be reinstated to a regular profile status and receive a new library card.
