It is with deep sadness that Paul Logli, President of the Board of Trustees of the Rockford Public Library, announced today that Jean Mangan, Information Services Manager, passed away Wednesday April 23, 2014, due to complications from a short illness.
Jean’s service with RPL began July 31, 1986 as a Librarian. Jean worked as the Adult and Youth Services Manager, Adult Services Assistant Manager, Northeast Branch Manager, Circulation Services Manager, and managed Rock River and the Rockton Centre Branches.
Jean’s staff praised her for managerial efforts saying that, as a supervisor, she had the ability to sense each staff person's strengths and capabilities. Jean was all about service – service to the public. She never assigned a task that she was not willing to do herself. There was no end to her patience, understanding, and empathy for others.
"The entire board is thankful to have had the opportunity to work with Jean here at RPL. We feel privileged to have had her share her expertise with the library for nearly three decades. Jean’s quick wit, even temper and her uncanny ability to manage people and handle difficult situations made her a key asset to the library. We are deeply saddened by this loss and she will be missed.
Board President Paul Logli asked that flags at all library locations be lowered to half-staff for the following week.
There will be a celebration of Jean's life from noon until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Stockholm Inn, 2420 Charles Street. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family. To express online condolences, please visit: www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
