Rockford Public Library recently hired Leslie Vano as its East Branch Manager. Vano is an Ohio native with 16 years of public library experience. She spent just under 10 years with the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library in Findlay, OH before moving back to her hometown to work for the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library for six years. Leslie joined the Rockford Public Library staff in July.
Leslie received her undergraduate degree in History and Political Science from Walsh University (North Canton, OH) in 1990 and her Master’s in Library Science from Kent State University (Kent, OH) in 1997. She also has an extensive background in management and is passionate about providing the best experience for library users as possible.
Fay Muhammad, Assistant Director of Rockford Public Library, states that “Leslie’s wealth of experience with public libraries and her passion for libraries will serve as a tremendous asset as we continue to pursue our mission. The mission of Rockford Public Library is to educate, inform, entertain and culturally enrich the people of our community.”
The Rockford Public Library, founded in 1872 as the second library in Illinois, currently has seven facilities, including the Nordlof Center (fka Sullivan Center), Main Library and five Branch Libraries. The Rockford Public Library’s mission is to enhance community life and development by informing, educating, entertaining, and providing cultural enrichment to all people of all ages by collecting information to address the diverse interests of our dynamic community
