Library Encourages Rockford to “Get Carded”

Local businesses help make library cards even more valuable

Throughout the month of February, your Rockford Public Library card will become even more valuable as 20 local businesses offer special discounts to Rockford Public Library cardholders. The campaign, called “Get Carded”, encourages all of Rockford to get a library card if they don’t already have one and visit some of the library’s favorite business partners for great deals.

Less than 35% of Rockfordians have their library cards, meaning that many don’t have access to the movies, music, books, software, online databases, programs and events offered free to Rockford taxpayers. Library administrators are hoping that this campaign will encourage everyone to get one of the most valuable cards they can carry.

“We provide an amazing array of services to the community, and it is our hope that more people will take advantage of those services,” said Frank Novak, Executive Director of Rockford Public Library. “The library also partners with local businesses regularly for programs and events, so we want our cardholders to visit some of our favorite local businesses throughout the month of February.”

The following businesses have agreed to participate in the “Get Carded” campaign in February: Allure Day Spa, Burpee Museum, Carlyle Brewery, Chocolat by Daniel, Cusco Jack's, Discovery Center Museum, Diva's Hair & Extension Designs, Ember Restaurant, Fuzz Salon, Game Crazy, Girlie Girl Shoes, The Goose Barn, High Maintenance Salon and Spa, Kiki B's, The King's Table, Lula's Vintage Boutique, Octane Interlounge, Paragon on State and Wonderland Books and Toys. For a complete list of special offers, please visit the library website at www.rockfordpubliclibrary.org/getcarded.

If you are a business owner interested in participating in the campaign, please contact Emily Hartzog, Community Relations Officer at Rockford Public Library at (815) 987-6609 or ehartzog@rockfordpubliclibrary.org.
