On March 15th, the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners and staff hosted the 2006 IAPD/IAPR Community Service Awards Recognition Luncheon and presented 31 individuals, agencies and companies with a Community Service Award for their support of parks and recreation in the community. Rockford Public Library was selected as an award recipient in the program category for their partnership with the Park District to host a Cinco de Mayo celebration at Mandeville Park and the Summer Reading Club Finisher’s Party at Magic Waters.
“We are very honored to receive this award from the Rockford Park District,” said Frank Novak, Executive Director of Rockford Public Library. “Our parks, like our libraries, offer an invaluable resource to the community and we find RPL and Park District partnerships to be very successful. We look forward to working with the Park District for future programs and events.”
Last year, Rockford Public Library rewarded finishers of its annual summer reading club with a free pass to Magic Waters and special admission for accompanying family members. The tickets served as a wonderful motivation for readers and the Finisher’s Party was one of the park’s best attended evening events. The two organizations plan to repeat the promotion for the library’s 2007 summer reading club. The summer reading club is the library’s largest signature event and it plans to draw 10,000 participants from throughout the Rockford region.
