Tom Lichtenheld to visit Rockford Public Library

Children’s author and illustrator returns home to Rockford for library events

 

Children’s author, illustrator and native Rockfordian Tom Lichtenheld will return to Rockford to present three events with Rockford Public Library on Saturday, May 15, 2010 including a workshop for local daycare providers, a fundraiser luncheon to benefit the Rockford Public Library and an all-ages family event at the East Branch Library.  In his presentations, Lichtenheld will focus on the importance of teaching creativity in the classroom and at home as well as highlighting creativity as a marketable skill in today’s economy.

Creativity is becoming more important in our culture and economy, but how do we teach it?  Speaking from personal experience, noted author and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld will talk about what inspired him and how teachers can encourage kids to think creatively.  Creative activities and books for enhancing early literacy and school readiness will also be featured in the workshop. “How to Make a Living Making Things Up” Luncheon Fundraiser to benefit Rockford Public Library

Tom will share his story and insights into how creativity can lead to a number of careers and have real value in the professional world. By treating creativity as a significant skill instead of a novelty, we can be more productive, innovative and valuable, especially in the present economy. Tom’s books will be available for purchase and a book signing will follow the program. Tickets are $35 and available by calling 815-987-6611. All proceeds benefit Rockford Public Library.

 

Meet the Author – Tom Lichtenheld

All ages. Free and open to the public.

Join us as we welcome popular children's author and illustrator, Tom Lichtenheld for an afternoon of stories and activities. Mr. Lichtenheld's books include Everything I Know About Pirates, What Are You So Grumpy About?, and Duck! Rabbit! Mr. Lichtenheld will present a 45 minute program on how a book is created and using your imagination every day. Then, children will have the opportunity to use their creativity on a variety of crafts based on the author's books including berets, shark puppets, and pirate gear! A book signing will follow the author's presentation. Wonderland Books & Toys will be selling books at the event.

 

About Tom Lichtenheld

Lichtenheld began his official career in art as a sign painter and eventually moved to advertising. He now uses his love of drawing and making up funny stories as a successful children’s author and illustrator with popular titles like Everything I Know About Pirates, Everything I Know About Monsters, and Everything I Know About Cars, all published by Simon and Schuster. He’s also written and illustrated two books for Little, Brown; What’s With This Room? and What Are You So Grumpy About? Tom recently teamed up with New York Times bestselling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal to create The OK Book, It’s Not Fair!, Yes Day! and Duck! Rabbit! Tom still works in advertising as a freelance creative director.
