Rockford Public Library Announces Saturday Spectacular

Delay of budget cuts mean programs continue through October

With the Rockford Public Library Board unanimously approving continued discussions with the library workers’ union on the best way to address impending budget cuts, Saturday Spectacular programming will continue through the month of October. The popular series, held on Saturdays from 11:00 – 11:45 at the Main Library and featuring nationally renowned storytellers, musicians and other performers, will return Saturday, October 10th with “Songs Are Stories, Too!: Music with Kathleen Gibson.” Gibson is an award winning family entertainer, songwriter, author, producer, and recording artist, and consistently receives the highest critical acclaim internationally from the American Library Association, Children's Book Watch, The National Association of Parenting Publications and others.

With uncertainty about staffing levels and library hours, Rockford Public Library was forced to delay formalizing plans for programs, but now that discussions will continue through October, many are excited to see the return of their favorite family activities.

“We have always had a strong program component to the service we offer the community,” explains Michelle Vosberg, Programming Officer at Rockford Public Library. “We have families we see every week at our storytimes, Saturday Spectaculars and other special events so we know they’ll be happy some of their favorite activities are back on the calendar.”
