Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is The Rockford Public Library Foundation?
The Rockford Public Library Foundation is a 501 (C)(3) corporation
with the basic purpose of soliciting and encouraging philanthropic
support for Rockford Public Library’s collections and programs.
Why should I make a donation to help a tax supported institution?
The Rockford Public Library is a department of the City of Rockford,
which provides partial funding for staff, collections, facilities, and operating
expenses.
As the Library continues to expand its service to the community,
the Rockford Public Library Foundation partners with the private
sector to secure funds to support programs and resources not included
in the city budget. Among these are: after-school reading enrichment
programs, the acquisition of special materials, new technologies
to provide the public with free and equal access to the latest in
electronic information resources, building maintenance, and cultural and educational programs.
Why does the Library need an endowment?
An endowment adds a critical element of stability, assisting the
Library to handle budget fluctuations. It also permits the Library
to fund innovative ideas and programs. Only the income is used,
while the principal is kept intact to assure an enduring source
of income.
What kind of gifts can be given to the Library?
While gifts of cash are the most common method, gifts of all kinds
to The Library Foundation will be gratefully considered, including
appreciated securities, real estate, memorials, and bequest provisions.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Contributions are deductible for personal or corporate tax purposes
to the fullest extent of the law.
Does the Foundation accept donations of books and magazines?
The Library Foundation is not able to accept donations of books
and magazines. Please call your local branch library for information
on this kind of donation.
