| Description |
|
The purpose of these scholarships is to foster greater interest in the criminal justice system toward the enhancement of local law enforcement by encouraging local students to act on their interest in the criminal justice system through the secondary educational program.
$500 awards to graduating high school students from Winnebago County.
Awards worth $1000 each to college students who have competed at least one year of study in the criminal justice field at a higher education institution and graduated from a high school in Winnebago County.
Students may obtain the application only through their high school or college counselor of school official.
A completed application is due to the school or counselor's offices on or before the 2nd Friday in April. The school officials will submit completed & endorsed applications to Crime Stoppers no later than the 3rd Friday in April.

| Who
Qualifies |
(1) Applicants must either finish high school senior year, or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd college year by 6/20. (2) Graduating high school applicants must be permanent residents of Winnebago County. College applicants must have graduated from a high school in Winnebago County, but may have permanent residence outside Winnebago County. (3) Students must be enrolled as a full time student at an institution of higher learning during the upcoming school year, not including summer sessions. (4) Applicants, if graduating high school, must have a declared educational interest or intended major in criminal justice. See counselor for other requirements.

| Requirements |
Award judgment will be based on academic achievement, community participation, articulation by applicant of his/her interest in criminal justice, and any comments or recommendations made by counselors/advisors.
