Description
The Alpine Kiwanis Club awards ten $1,500 scholarships. The scholarship must be applied only to the expenses of schooling for the ensuing academic year. Mail completed application & supporting materials to Amanda Meyers, Scholarship Chair, Alpine Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 5132, Rockford, IL 61125. The Alpine Kiwanis Scholarship rewards outstanding youth for their commitment to improving the quality of life in our city through meaningful, active community service. It recognizes significant contributions by young people of the Rockford community to the general scholastic and extra-curricular life of their respective school. It encourages deserving young men and women to continue their studies and their dedication to good works within the community. Information about the 2013 scholarships will be mailed to school counselors in early-mid December, 2012.
Who Qualifies
Outstanding moral character and frequent participation of a constructive nature in both school and community events and/or programs. Financial need beyond the amount his/her family can provide, except in cases where another individual organization, agency or institution will be furnishing the total amount of funds required for further education. Apparent interest and the academic ability to continue his/her education beyond high school or community college levels, but not necessarily by attending a college or university per se.
Requirements
Must be enrolled and expecting to be graduated within a semester from any of Rockford area high schools or Rock Valley College. For 5 of these scholarships, a student must be an active member of a Christian Life, Guilford, Jefferson, or Harlem Key Club or the Circle K Club at Rock Valley College. If there are no qualified applicants from these clubs, these will be open to other qualified students. For the other 5 scholarships, the student can be but is not required to be a member of a Key or Circle K Club.
