Description
The Kiwanis Youth Education/Service Award is designed to provide financial assistance to Rockford high school seniors by partially removing economic barriers to college/university attendance. The award recognizes local students with outstanding total performance in school and the community. Mail application to Phil Davidson, Kiwanis YES Award Committee, 5486 Ponderosa Dr., Rockford, IL 61107. The Award may be applied to college/university expenses only. Selection will be based on outstanding total performance in school and the community. The evaluation will be based on the written report of the school counselor (establishing the individual's performance in service), 3 letters of recommendation and the candidate's application. The 3/8/13 deadline was not yet certain by 10/13/12, so we recommend double-checking that.
Who Qualifies
Outstanding moral character as demonstrated by participation in organizations and activities leading to the learning of morality, frequent participation of a constructive nature in both school & community projects & programs, and interest in and the academic ability to continue aducation beyond high school, demonstrated by formal admission to an institution of higher education.
Requirements
Each high school is asked to recommend any qualified candidates for the award. Candidates must be enrolled and expecting to graduate within a semester from one of the 12 Rockford, Loves Park, and Rockton/Roscoe high schools: Auburn, Boylan, East, Guilford, Jefferson, Harlem, Lutheran, Keith, Christian Life, Roosevelt Alternative, Rockford Christian, and Hononegah. Classification as a senior at the time the Award is granted and presented, with attendance at a college or university occurring within the current calendar year.
