Description   
The Kiwanis College Grant Award is designed to provide financial assistance to a Rockford high school senior by partially removing economic barriers to college/university attendance. The Award recognizes local students with financial need for their community service and academic potential. It encourages young men and women who have significant financial need to continue their academic studies, and recognizes significant contributions by young people of the Rockford community to the general scholastic and extra-curricular life of the schools of Rockford and the community.

The Award may be applied to college/university expenses only.

Mail applications to Phil Davidson, Kiwanis YES Award Committee, 5486 Ponderosa Dr., Rockford, IL 61107. As of 10/13/12 the 3/8/13 deadline was not certain, so it is recommended to double-check that later.

The evaluation will be based on the written report of the school counselor, 3 letters of recommendation and the candidate's application.

Who Qualifies  
All candidates must be recommended through the school counseling staff. Selection will be based on financial need and outstanding total performance in school and community.

Candidates must be enrolled and expecting to graduate within a semester from one of the 12 Rockford, Loves Park, and Rockton/Roscoe high schools: Auburn, Boylan, East, Guilford, Jefferson, Harlem, Lutheran, Keith, Christian Life, Roosevelt Alternative, Rockford Christian, and Hononegah.

Outstanding moral character as demonstrated by participation in organizations and activities leading to the learning of morality, frequent participation of a constructive nature in both school & community projects & programs demonstrating a commitment of person and time for the wholesome life of living in Rockford, a stated plan for meeting present & future financial need; and interest in and the academic ability to continue education beyond high school, demonstrated by formal admission to an institution of higher education.

Requirements  
Classification as a senior at the time the Award is granted and presented, with attendance at a college or university occuring within the current calendar year.
