Taus, Inc

The Taus, Inc. was organized in 1959 by Estelle Black, Marcella Harris, Constance Lane and Betty Lee along with five other business and professional women: Fannie Gooden, Mary Hawks, Nan Morgan, Betty Roach and Thelma Robinson.

The group has grown from nine women, with a commitment to the betterment of the Rockford community, to 25. Members feel it is both a privilege and an opportunity to be able to initiate and develop a continuous program of cultural and social activities, and promote higher education by awarding scholarships. The group also supports many community projects.

The Taus Inc. has been awarding scholarships to African American female high school students since 1962. We are proud of our history and commitment with assisting young women to achieve higher learning.
